After several false hopes, Mark phoned me to say that a guy who
had done the Agadir event in his Caterham 7 would like to do the
event in a Fury as there is more room. Would I like to meet him?

Tony Boyd and I met up a couple of times and he drove the car.
We seemed to get on and the die was cast.
Between competing at Loton Park and in the Welsh Sprint and
Hillclimb Championship I prepared the car. Perhaps a double
header sprint weekend ten days before the start was a good way of adding stress to my life!

Thursday 23rd.

D day dawned and I packed the car  and set forth to collect Tony from Welwyn Garden City. He bought a garage
there for his Caterham and found that it came with the bonus of a
house as well. We were to stay the night with Mark and Isobel
Fisher before the Euro tunnel ride to France.

On the way to the Dartford bridge in the middle of a 70 MPH
traffic jam the engine cut dead. Hazard flashers on and a quick
dive across the nose of a very angry artic brought us to the hard
shoulder. I diagnosed a faulty fuel pump. On the limp to Thurrock
services to fit the spare pump that I had brought with me the
alternator ( rebuilt two months before ) started to fail .
We got to Marden and in the morning Mark got a spare alternator
from the workshop and we left.

Friday 24th September

The carpark at the Tunnel Terminus  saw a gathering of excited
members of the kit car fraternity, some of whom already knew
Each other from the Morrocan trip.
