JENSON BUTTON

Biography

Jenson Button has made a massive impact in his debut grand prix season, stunning observers with his level-headed approach and blistering speed.

Button was a star before he got to grand prix racing. He had excelled in world championship karting and had won the British Formula Ford
championship in his first year of car racing. An impressive year of
Formula 3 followed, before Frank Williams came knocking on the door last winter.

Many pundits, including experienced voices like Jackie Stewart,
expected the novice to struggle in the sport's top-flight with only two years of racing under his belt. But Button proved everyone wrong with a sequence of amazing performances.

He became the youngest driver in the history of the sport to score a world championship point when he finished sixth in only his second grand prix at Interlagos.

Button went on to finish fifth in the British Grand Prix after outpacing Michael Schumacher in the early stages of the race.

He had the occasional off day, he was less than brilliant at Imola and Monaco, but on the whole he was mightily impressive for such a young and inexperienced driver.
Most telling of all, he was particularly mighty at Spa and Suzuka, both traditionally a real test of a driver's mettle.
