And the trip was done a good deal quicker than any
SHERPA would have done it .
The car has the guts to maintain 90mph on the Autobann
but Roger`s chief area of concern centres on the steering geometry and the cross ply tyres . He`s already made new axle
wedges which increase the angle from five degrees to eleven degrees which increases the steering`s self centring ability
to what he considers to be as good as it will get and is still thinking about the means by which steering geometry
could be further improved.
The crossplys are ok in a straight line and enthusiastic cornering. If they are going to break away they do so far more progressively , but they still lack the grip and speed of reaction of a radial and when water enters the equation , he just slows down.
He also feels the car could do with softer springs but since his are SOLID GRP , It`ll mean a switch to steel springs and experiments in leaf removal.
The final embellishment the car lacks is wire wheels Roger has approached Motor Wheel Services but they would need to create tooling to make a wheel with the correct offset. The tooling bill would be around £3000 , including the wheels , but if a bunch of Sherpley
owners clubbed together the prospect becomes very much more
