CHILDREN IN NEED 2000…… Words from your Chairman
Just for a change Ha Ha ...we decided to carry out our annual Children in Need antics at Tesco's Culverhouse Cross Store once again. The theme was anything as long as it involved fancy dress.. We had .clowns, a dinosaur, a schoolgirl, Napoleon, a nun trying to kick the habit and the von Trapp family! We parked 4 of the cars, (Sylva Leader, Sylva Fury Dutton Melos and the Sherpley) right in front of the store. I think that some of the customers thought that yours truly was trying to get the Sherpley inside whilst I was maneuvering it into position. We arrived about 6.15pm and got the buckets out immediately although the dinosaur had to go and crawl into his skin. It was interesting to note that as the night wore on the dinosaur lost his head and donned a rally bobble hat!!! The majority of customers volunteered (or were persuaded by the dinosaur's deadly tail) to donate generously you just had to be there to understand it. I was particularly upset that whilst I was partaking of a cup of coffee kindly provided by Tesco's and taking my ease in a sitting position after a long stint with the bucket a passing stranger assuming me to be some sort dosser dropped a pound coin into my coffee mug! During the evening we raised around £700.00 at Tesco's with further money raised by various sponsored activities by different club members brought the total raised to date to:- £1053.00
well done Guys and Dolls !!!!!
Next year it would be good if we could raise a record £2000.00. The only way to achieve this would be to start earlier so I propose that if we can get enough volunteers, yes that does mean you, we could run the collection on a shift system starting at lunchtime and I think we could easily manage this much. if we put our minds to it. Anyway I would like to thank all those who turned up on the night and all those that collected sponsorship money.
