MIKA HAKKINEN
Biography
Mika Hakkinen is out for revenge in 2001 after Michael Schumacher ended his dream of becoming the first man since Juan-Manuel Fangio to win three consecutive F1 championships.
The Flying Finn put in some of the best performances of his career
during 2000 - his overtaking move on Schumacher in Belgium has
already gone down in F1 folklore - but his hopes were ultimately dashed by three engine failures.
2001 is Hakkinen's eighth full season with McLaren and his sixth alongside David Coulthard, making them the longest-running partnership in F1 history. The Finn has enjoyed a very close relationship with team boss Ron Dennis ever since he suffered a near-fatal accident at the 1995 Australian Grand Prix.

Although Hakkinen had to wait until 1997 before he claimed his maiden grand prix win, he has been in F1 since 1991. He was snapped up by Lotus after beating compatriot and arch-rival Mika Salo to the 1990 British F3 title.

Mika struggled with an under-powered car in his first season, chalking up only one points finish at Imola.
He had a better chance to show what he was made of in 1992 with a vastly improved car. He finished the year eighth in the drivers'
championship with 11 points.

Hakkinen gambled on a move to McLaren in 1993, but spent most of the year testing after Ayrton Senna made a late decision to stay with the team.
