RUBENS BARRICHELLO
Biography
Like most Brazilians of his generation, Rubens Barrichello has struggled to emerge from the shadow cast by his friend and mentor, the late, great Ayrton Senna.

After seven years spent in the middle of the grid, Barrichello finally got his big chance last season when he became Michael Schumacher's
team-mate at Ferrari.

Despite winning his first ever grand prix at Hockenheim and receiving a glowing tribute from Schuey - he called Barrichello the fastest team-mate he has ever had - the Brazilian has failed to fully convince.

Barrichello has rarely managed to match the pace of David Coulthard, let alone that of Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen.

After winning a memorable battle with Coulthard for the 1991 British F3 championship, Barrichello spent a year in F3000 before graduating to F1 with Jordan.

He produced an excellent performance in only the third race of his
career to vie with the leaders at a damp Donington in the European Grand Prix. His only points of the year came in the penultimate race of the year in Japan.

Results improved massively in 1994 and Barrichello claimed his first pole position in Belgium. But his year was marred by the death of Senna, a huge influence on his career, at Imola.

After two more solid but unspectacular years with Jordan, Barrichello moved to the new Stewart team in 1997.   More
